As he stood in line near the Rumor resort, Gregory Jones knew he was taking a gamble on his latest job prospect.
After all, what kind of person would come to Las Vegas from California in hopes of landing a job?
“Have faith,” Jones said. “God knows what he’s doing.”
While Jones remains confident, faith is in short supply for locals who are struggling to find work and facing increased competition in a city with a 14.2 percent unemployment rate.
A crowd of more than 500 people hoped to win one of the 50 job openings at Rumor Wednesday. The boutique hotel, located on the former site of the St. Tropez on Harmon Avenue, is scheduled to open at the end of the month.
That means staff will need to be hired quickly and those hoping for a job will need to make an immediate impression during their interviews.
